LETTER
TO THE CATHOLIC BISHOP OF BATHURST
In approximately
1969 I sent a paper to Bishop Thomas of Bathurst entitled "God is a
Scientist". The basis of the paper was the conclusion that, since God
made the Universe, then the things we are finding out in science are
the design programs that God set to make the Universe. That is, science
is God in action. Also, the information in both the Old and New Testaments
is God's revelation of these programs long before we humans had any
possibility of finding them out for ourselves. In Bishop Thomas's reply
he suggested that I look into adult education, which was the diocesan
project for that year. I followed his advice and after having completed
a B.A. (Hons) in anthropology and majoring in psychology and educational
psychology (1984); an M.A. (Hons) in educational psychology (1989) both
degrees taken at Sydney University; a Certificate of Theology (March
1992) at the Catholic Institute of Sydney St Patrick's Manly and private
study in Cosmology and Quantum Physics, I thought it time to send to
you, Bishop Thomas's successor, the results of my study. These show
that there is no conflict between the Judaeo-Christian religion and
science, in fact science supports the information in the Old and New
Testaments and supplies reasons why it was revealed to us.
Science tells us
that human beings are all born as animals. The Judaeo-Christian religion
tells us that because of our inherited disposition to behave as animals
we cannot be allowed into eternal life. This and only this religion
is God's revelation of what each of us must learn if we wish to be allowed
into the heaven of everlasting life.
Scientific
information also supports the pronouncements of the Popes on faith and
morals particularly those of John Paul 2nd such as contraception and abortion,
celibacy of clergy, ordination of women, remarriage after divorce, euthanasia,
retention of liturgical norms and acceptance of the Pope's authoritative
statements on beliefs and morals. This scientific explanation of religion
would reunite Christian sects and show the errors in the views of non-Christian
religions.
Parents
bring up their children to understand and conform to the rules of their
society. If they live in a non-religious society then, at the age of reason
they must try and teach separate rules imposed by their religion. Often
the religious rules oppose the social rules thus the child or teenager
must make a choice that they don't understand: - to obey their peer group
amongst whom they must live all the time or to obey the priest who they
only see on occasion and obey their parents who often cannot give a very
lucid reason for the mixture of social rules and religious rules that
they are laying down.
This
paper gives a clear account of how the religious rules are related to
the social rules. It also shows that ignoring the religious rules does
great damage to you and may damage others also. It also gives the reasons
for the conflict between religious rules and social rules and shows how
to sort out the best course to follow. It also allows the person him or
herself to make a judgment of whether or not the rules are of a grave
nature or just an idea that someone has magnified out of all proportion
(eg. the no blood transfusion rule of 7th Day Adventists). Finally it
shows that God does not punish people, they punish themselves when they
finally find out that they have made themselves unfit to live forever
because they still cling to conflict producing animal behaviors.
This
paper gives some answers to the questions of "What is the secret of the
Universe" and "What is the meaning of life". These questions have often
been spoken of in jest or in ridicule but the fact is that our knowledge
of Quantum Physics, Cosmology and of Biology has progressed to the stage
where Science, when combined with the information contained in Religious
Revelation, can give us logical answers to these questions.
The question
of "what is the secret of the Universe" includes such subjects as where
the Universe came from and what keeps it functioning. The general information
on cosmology and the Big Bang Theory Will give answers to how the Universe
developed and Quantum Physics gives us a view on what keeps it going.
As for the meaning of life, various religions say that there are other
places, which we cannot see, but in which other beings live and these
beings can influence our lives on this earth. Quantum Physics and Cosmology
can now tell us that there are other universes available and at least
one of them is intimately connected with ours, but we must still rely
on Religious Revelation for the information that there are beings living
in them and that we will live in one of them when we die.
